Smartphone Lens Kit with Tripod Honest Review

Finally I bought a lens kit to use with my phones (iPhone and LG).

It comes in a promising looking package with all essentials for taking videos and photos!

Let’s take it for a spin!

I mean…let’s try it out.

The kit comes in a handy protective case that feels sturdy.

Here it comes!

Look through the manual to see what and how.

Okay…all seems simple enough to follow.

A clip to attach lenses to the phone camera.

The clip is made of plastic.

This screw serves as a lock.

Let’s open it all the way to start with.

This clip opens up to about 25mm (1 inch) wide.

Though, effective grip should be on phones with case for up to about 15mm thick I think.

Let’s put the clip on my iPhone SE without any holder for now.

The clip fits easy on front and the rear camera.

The clip can be put in vertical or horizontal position.

Now let’s lock the clip with the screw to prevent accidental release of the clip.

Now to the tripod.

This one has 3 telescopic legs all made of aluminum.

It is light and…feels flimsy to me.

The head ball does spin 360 around, but has some unevenness that prevents it from rotating smoothly.

Okay…I can work with that.

And this is a phone holder.

It looks good.

It has two screw holes to mount it the tripod either in vertical or horizontal position.

That is really handy future!

The phone holder is loaded with a spring.

Let’s see…it opens about 95mm wide.

That is more than enough for my phones.

Let’s mount the phone.

My iPhone SE fits in.

Any smaller phone would fall out of this phone holder.

Now to the lenses.

Here is a 22x telescopic lens.

We have to screw the narrow end of the lens to the clip already attached to the phone.

Notice that the clip moves slightly of off the center while I tightening up the lens to the clip.

Centering the clip back with the lens already attached to it could take time.

Let’s unscrew the lens and try the next one.

The fish eye lens is smaller and therefore easier to screw in the clip.

And again, the clip went off of the center when I tightened the lens to the clip.

There are two more lenses in this kit to try.

The wide angle and macro lens are attached together.

To use the wide angle lens we have to attach it as it is screwed with macro lens.

So, the wide angle lens can be attached and used only in a pair with the macro lens.

To use the macro lens I have to unscrew the wide angle lens.

Here it is.

And I left the macro lens attached to the clip.

Here it is.

The macro lens works on much closer distances than any other lenses.

I want to try the macro lens right away and…the tripod fell apart.

The flimsy tripod did not survive the very first attempt of recording.

Without a tripod it is near impossible to take pictures or videos using any of this lenses.

So, I am very disappointed about that tripod.

Well, luckily for me — I have my old tripod with the same 1/4 screw ball head.

So, I should be able to use this lenses.

Okay, let’s pack it all back into the case.

Time to test the lenses in the field!

First I want to record in a vertical mode using…oh-oh.

My iPhone slides down and falls!

This phone holder does not hold a small iPhone without any lens attached to it yet!

I use a couple rubber bands to improve the grip and to secure my phone to the holder.

Yeah…it holds for now…

And I opted to use a larger, more stable tripod.

Secure the phone to the holder with another rubber band…

Let’s see if my phone can take a view of the Empire State Building between this two high scrapers.

It is a view from Roosevelt Island.

On the left is the phone camera as it is.

On the right is the phone camera with the telescopic lens.

I like the telescopic lens!

Here I use the fish eye lens on the right.

No lens on the left.

The fish eye lens does what is should.

Though, I think the fish eye lens effect looks better with phone hold in a horizontal position.

The fish eye effect seems to get less noticeable when I zoom in.

Now to the wide 120 angle lens you can see on the right.

The wide lens certainly gives more view in the field.

Though, more view comes with a noticeable distortion on the sides of the screen.

And finally, the macro lens I am personally very curious to see it in actions!

On the right you can see all the tiny details of a small flower shown through the macro lens.

I love this macro lens!!

Let’s see some more macro closeups.

The macro lens gives so much details — things that I could not see without it!

Notice that view gets blurry and off focus when camera shakes even slightly.

It stands true for all lenses and all cameras.

And that is why phone holders with loose grip and flimsy tripods are not acceptable!

I like this macro lens and see a lot of use for it in making observations and recordings for my videos that I want to share with you.

And that is all that really matters.

Have fun and happy video recordings :)
